Nestled in the tranquil hill of Claremont on the campus of The Web Schools sits the Raymond M. Alf Museum of Paleontology. Small compared to the other museums we have been to, the Alf Museum is bursting with dinosaurs and fossil remains. And for an exciting afternoon, it did not disappoint, With as small as the museum was, I was a little skeptical at first that it would hold the kids attention. However, one of the first things to catch both Jayson's and Kaitlin's eyes was a whole Allosaures skeleton. There was an impressive amount of skeletal remains as well, all of which absolutely thrilled Jayson. On the other hand, Kaitlin was much more interested in all the diagrams showing how the earth has changed since the dinosaurs' extinction. There was a picture depicting the Mojave River Basin during the late Cretaceous period that included water and marsh land. Kaitlin got a real kick out of this especially since she and I walked the same area this last Memorial Day weekend with nothing but dirt and sage-brush all around. Between this and the dinosaurs, the Alf museum quickly became a favorite day trip experience.
