Summer hit and camping fever struck Jayson and Kaitlin once again. Honestly I believe it never leaves them. This year we headed up to the San Jacinto mountains and tried the Boulder Basin campsite.  We fell love.
Boulder Basin is 7300 ft. in elevation and about  15 miles away from the city of Idylwild. There are vault toilets, a fire lookout tower near by, and a fire ring and picnic table for every campsite. However, there is no running water.
Another adventures fact about Boulder Basin is the last five miles of the drive up there.  The road is not paved except for a couple of corners. In fact, it is a very rough ride as you travel the last thousand feet in elevation. Sometimes you are driving over rock, and occasionally you need to get out to clear the road. It is also a one car path making it a real challenge it you meet someone going the opposite direction. The kids love it.
This last trip we hiked the half mile up to the fire lookout tour. The half a mile was nothing, but the 500 ft. elevation climb was something else. I had to carry Jayson up most of the way, but he hiked sown himself. Kaitlin on the other hand, hiked without a problem.
The hike was worth it as well. The view at the top was spectacular. On top of that, the volunteer ranger took his time with Jayson and Kaitlin. They got see inside the tower where he slept and how he spent his time with what radio reception he could get. He also gave the kids Smokey the Bear pencils and pencil sharpeners as well as a small certificate for making the climb. Both cannot wait to go back.

Every kid's dream is to dig a hole to China and find berried treasure. Well for Jayson and Kaitlin, they managed one out of the tow and gave the second a real good try. Yes, they actually found berried treasure, or at least their idea of treasure.
About two feet down into their hole at Bolsa Chica State Beach, they found ten different action figures. Both  Jayson and Kaitlin were flabbergasted. Never did they imagine that they would actually find something. And what was even better was the fact that they had enough to split evenly and play separately for a while.
